Cell Phones and Wi-Fi
The cell phone market sells approximately 600 million handsets each year, and this number is continuing to climb. But wait until you see the next generation of mobility: cell phones with Wi-Fi. That’s exactly where the cell phone industry seems to be heading, and consumers can’t get enough.
The mobility that cell phones and laptops have offered an entire generation of computer-age adults, is about to converge to give us yet another technological wonder. The cell phone is about to go hi-tech and the laptop may soon feel the pinch.
We already have cell phones that offer Wi-Fi has a built-in feature, but the technology is so new, and cutting edge, that there are still flaws, and not many of the millions of cell phone users have accessed this available option. However, as the technology is refined, and the interface with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and various internet service providers is improved, most analysts predict a tremendous surge in consumer demand.
What happens with the laptop? Well, don’t write it off just yet. As with many of the electronic gadgets and devices we use today, technology doesn’t just become obsolete overnight. The laptop sales of last year at year end were way above the desktop computer sales, but for the most part, consumers now own not only a desktop but a laptop. You can expect to see cell phones and Wi-Fi reap the same fate.
Many consumers, who utilize the laptop, will also purchase and own a cell phone with wireless internet access. Not every piece of equipment fits every situation. This is the case with the laptop and desktop, and will most certainly be the course for the laptop and the cell phone.
Perhaps the greatest contribution of cell phones and Wi-Fi is the voice applications that interface with internet applications.
