Consumers and Cell Phones
The phenomenal growth of cell phones in society is something not experienced in the history of electronics. The consumers purchasing cell phones range from every part and parcel of society, and the phones are purchased for every reason known to man.
The industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and growing. Thanks to the new markets of China, India, and Russia the cell phone industry continues to grow at astonishing rates, surpassing any of the other electronics purchases such as televisions, computers or cameras.
The cell phone has become a permanent fixture for many professions, as we seem to feel that 24/7 accessibility is a necessity nor a luxury. Every consumer from the salesperson on the go, to the mom that is a chauffeur, maid, teacher, and cook seems to have determined a need for these handy little gadgets.
Never mind the expense, the overuse, and the impatience that constant contact has generated in an entire generation of consumers. We must have them.
Now, it seems we have choices in extra features, that can add to the efficiency and the need we are already sure is an addiction. They now come with built-in Wi-Fi, cameras, and user-interface software for calendars and appointments. Amazing, that we can do so much with mobility.
The new devices, Blackberry and IPod are simply variations on the cell phone creation, and should soon find a way to merge with cell phone as consumers discover another device they cannot live without.
The days of the futuristic space traveler with the button intercom that keeps them connected with every other person on the starship, is a reality today. Thanks to the cell phones that offer walkie-talkie features, the new technology that allows for wireless connectivity, and the consumer craze that has now saturated the market. So, go ahead, let’s try the beam up feature!
