Mobile Phones: More Than Just Voice
Today, many manufacturers of mobile phones find themselves doing more than voice. Mobile phones today come with so many features, they have virtually become mobile information centers, not just phones.
The latest in mobile phone technology has thinned out the mobile phone, added digital camera technology, and internet Wi-Fi capability. No longer are they just for telephone access.
You can download your favorite video, stock information, email, and web cam information. You have access in any area that offers Wi-Fi or free wireless and the mobile phone is now a computerized, mobile information center.
It is truly amazing to someone of the baby boomer generation, to gape at the technology incorporate into the use of mobile phones. As a child, we used a telephone system that operated with party lines. Anybody over the age of 40 may well remember this or at least have watched the Andy Griffith show to see it in action. To now be able to communicate wirelessly, from anywhere, to any information device is astounding.
The expected advances in technology with respect to the mobile phone industry aren’t expected to slow anytime soon. Thanks to the emerging markets in China and India, consumption and saturation rates are continuing to grow, and along with increased profit, comes research and development.
As the technology advances, you can look for changes in the size, format, and design of mobile phones to change also. LCD displays, Bluetooth technology, and videoconferencing are on the horizon as new technology makes their inclusion in smaller, handheld devices possible.
The iPod, Palm Pilot, and Blackberry models are extending the realm of mobile technology to new heights, merging the mobile technology with the information technology that is currently, the new kid in town.
Move over, laptop. Here comes the mobile information center, formerly known as the mobile phone.
